Industry Leadership

Pixeldust made its mark in social media application development by designing and developing Rottenneighbor.com. Utilizing Google Maps API, Pixeldust built a unique real estate engine that allows users to search their address, post information on neighbor’s houses, comment, upload videos and photos, and vote on posts. Users can rate a neighborhood according to noise, safety, appearance, services, traffic and the neighborhood overall, and share posts across all social networks.

Pixeldust also created several non-standard social media features including Creep Alerts, Neighbor Notes and Neighbor Navigation. Creep Alerts notifies users by email any time a sex offender moves within a certain mile radius of their home. Working with Family Watchdog, Pixeldust created an application to continuously update sex offender registrants on the Rotten Neighbor map through the Watchdog database. Likewise, Neighbor Navigation provides users information on local home sales, foreclosures, schools and nearby establishments. Neighbor Notes allows users to generate a PDF and anonymously send their neighbor a note or complaint.

Rotten Neighbor is considered to be a very early form of geo locating and location-based social networking.

Another way Pixeldust has used social media creatively is with the design and development of gattisjingle.com. Pixeldust built a custom application that allows users and musicians to upload their own audio or video versions of the long-time Gatti’s jingle and share them across numerous social networks. Users can listen to the entries, make comments, rate, and vote for their favorite entries. The site quickly became popular and received over 80,000 visits.

One of the newest areas of applications born out of the social networking era is location-based social networking. Location-based social networking works by users joining an online community and sharing their location through their mobile phone. Location-based social networking can be used through a variety of contexts, including finding nearby restaurants, posting pictures or finding/posting retailer reviews. Users can add comments about a restaurant, let friends know they’re going shopping downtown or find out if anyone you know happens to be nearby.

By developing a wide range of standard and non-standard social media, Pixeldust continues to demonstrate our depth of knowledge and dedication to staying at the forefront of social media trends.
