The time has come for a new website (or website redesign), which means you need to write a website request for proposal or web RFP. A Google search produces a few examples, but they vary wildly and don’t seem to speak really to your goals for developing or redesigning a new website. You need to write a website RFP that will clearly articulate your needs and generate responses from the best website designers and developers out there. But how?

Have no fear, RFP Robot is here. He will walk you through a step-by-step process to help you work through the details of your project and create a PDF formatted website design RFP that will provide the information vendors need to write an accurate bid. RFP Robot will tell you what info you should include, point out pitfalls, and give examples.

Don't blame open-source software for poor security practices

Last week, Equifax, one of the largest American credit agencies, was hit by a cyber attack that may have compromised the personal data of nearly 143 million people, including name, address, social security numbers, birthdates and more. The forfeited information reveals everything required to steal someone’s identity or to take out a loan on someone else’s name. Considering that the current US population is 321 million, this cyberattack is now considered to be one of the largest and most intrusive breaches in US history. It’s Equifax that is to blame, not open-source A security breach of this scale warrants serious concern. As Equifax began to examine how the breach occurred, many unsubstantiated reports and theories surfaced in an attempt to pinpoint the vulnerability. One such theory targeted Apache Struts as the software responsible for the the breach. Because Apache Struts is an open-source framework used for developing Java applications, this…

Movavi Screen Capture Studio Review: Recording Online Videos is a Breeze

Inspired Magazine Inspired Magazine – creativity & inspiration daily You wake up for work. The first item on your to-do list is to open up that social media webinar you’ve been looking forward to. You’re fifteen minutes early and ready to learn about how you can turn your small business into a presence on Facebook. But then, the phone rings. Your kid got sick at school and now you need to come and pick him up. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a quick way to record that webinar for future viewing? Quite a few versions of screen capture software exist. Some cost hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars. Others come as browser extensions or default software installed into your operating system. These tend to work for limited use, but you often run into problems like the amount of time you can capture, resolution difficulties and watered-down features in general. The…

Oxygen – The WordPress Visual Site Builder for Real Designers?

WordPress page builders are generally shunned by those who know how to code. They are generally bloated and slow. And you are offered very limited customization options. But what if there was a visual site builder meant for advanced, professional website designers? It turns out there is! It’s called Oxygen, and it’s quickly becoming the tool of choice for WordPress web designers. Notice that with Oxygen, you design your entire site – content, headers, footers, menus, etc. It totally replaces your WordPress theme. All pages are constructed from fundamental HTML elements – section, div, h1…6, p, span, a, img, and a few more. Then, you visually edit CSS properties to get everything looking the way you want. So unlike a typical page builder, you can design anything. It’s like hand-coding, but visually. Think Webflow, but for WordPress. To integrate with WordPress and design layouts for posts, custom post types, archives,…

Sharing to Medium Publications

Something that I’ve been doing for a little bit of time is sharing my content that I create to other Medium Publications. I was, at first, a bit anxious when the first publication requested to use my content and I declined invitations for a long time before I finally said “Yes” to one. Now, a good portion of the content that I write not only goes to my profile (via a very handy and simple WordPress plugin) but many of the posts get submitted to other, much-larger publications. One that got published last night was in the queue for nearly 6 months before it finally went public: via Free Code Camp! I wrote the original on March 16th and submitted it for review. Now, Free Code Camp is one of the largest publications in Medium with over 300,000 subscribers. Nice. Consequently, it gets a lot of attention and press and…

Alternative to the Co-Authors Plus WordPress Plugin

Co-Authors Plus is an old and popular WordPress plugin. By default, WordPress allows you to choose a single author for content. Co-Authors Plus was a solution to this, because it allowed you to assign multiple authors to one content item. However, Co-Authors Plus has only had a small number updates in the last few years. Also, it can be hard to use because it requires you to edit your template files. The Multiple Authors add-on for PublishPress is a fork of Co-Authors Plus that’s worth checking out. We reviewed the main PublishPress plugin, which is a really good editorial calendar. Multiple Authors is an extra feature for that main plugin. [[ This is a content summary only. BeTheme Wants to Be the Only WordPress Theme You’ll Ever Need

Standalone WordPress themes simply don’t cut it anymore. In today’s environment, where clients demand instant project turnaround at rock-bottom prices, the race is on for a single WordPress theme that can do it all – at least for those clients who favor quick results and lower prices. This is where WordPress website builders come in and most of us have probably tried out Divi and some of the other more popular builders. However, the latest version of BeTheme – developed by Muffin Group – not only wants to be the only theme you need. It also wants to be the first WordPress website builder that shrugs off those slow loading times that can make them so frustrating.   BeTheme version 20: A faster website builder Version 20 of BeTheme rolled out on June 19 this year (2017) and there was one particular update that caught my eye. The theme package has now been reduced to…

Conditional Logic with Caldera Forms in WordPress

The general rule for building forms is that you should have as few fields as possible, as too many fields can lead to a drop in conversions. But you also have to avoid creating a form that doesn’t gather the information you need. This is where the conditional logic in WordPress form builders is so great — your form can tailor itself to the exact needs of the person filling out the form. If you’re looking for a powerful and free conditional logic from a WordPress form builder plugin, Caldera Forms is a great choice. Caldera Forms has a page builder-like drag-and-drop interface and an intuitive conditional logic system. As a free alternative to Gravity Forms and Ninja Forms, Caldera Forms conditional logic is a free feature. [[ This is a content summary only.
