rfp-robotRFP ROBOT: Website Request for Proposal Generator

The time has come for a new website (or website redesign), which means you need to write a website request for proposal or web RFP. A Google search produces a few examples, but they vary wildly and don’t seem to speak really to your goals for developing or redesigning a new website. You need to write a website RFP that will clearly articulate your needs and generate responses from the best website designers and developers out there. But how?

Have no fear, RFP Robot is here. He will walk you through a step-by-step process to help you work through the details of your project and create a PDF formatted website design RFP that will provide the information vendors need to write an accurate bid. RFP Robot will tell you what info you should include, point out pitfalls, and give examples.

Accessible SVGs in High Contrast Mode

The following is a guest post by Eric Bailey. You know how people change settings sometimes to make it easier to use for them? For example, they bump up the default font size in their browser so it’s easier for them to read. As Drupal Web Designers, we like to accommodate that. We consider it good accessibility. The same goes here. Some people on Windows enable “High Contrast Mode” to make their computer screen easier for them to work with. Will our important SVG files hold up to the change? Let Eric show you. Making your SVG accessible includes adding extra steps to your workflow, but is well-worth it. By embracing clean, semantic markup and taking advantage of some of the less well known features of CSS, you can create easily maintainable solutions that include considerations for low vision, a condition that affects a not-insignificant amount of the population. Rather…

The 3 Questions to Ask on Your Lead Ad Forms

Leads had long been frustrating to gather from social media ads before Facebook’s Lead Ads came along. With mobile users being able to access a form quickly within the app (instead of having to leave to another, slow-loading, data-devouring landing page) and Facebook automatically filling out all the information it can, users are a lot more likely to convert. Facebook’s Lead Ads are a valuable tool for businesses of all sizes, allowing us to gather information from relevant users to nurture leads. This is especially true considering the forms are so customizable, allowing us to ask almost anything that we want. As many businesses and salespeople know, asking the right questions can make a world of difference when you’re trying to turn a lead into a customer and close a sale, so this post is going to take a look at the questions to ask on lead ad forms (and…

Reframe.js Notes

FitVids.js is still a perfectly workable mini plugin for making videos (or anything) responsive. You need it, or something like it, for sites that have things like YouTube or Vimeo videos, Instagram embeds, or really anything that’s not responsive in the aspect-ratio sense. <img>/<video> resize their width/height in an aspect ratio friendly way, <iframe>/<canvas>/<object> do not. Reframe.js is kind of a modernized version of FitVids. It’s bower and npm friendly. You can require it. It doesn’t need jQuery. While they largely do the same thing, there are some slight differences: FitVids injects the CSS it needs while Reframe expects you to add it to your stylesheet. You call FitVids on a container to search for elements in. You give Reframe selectors directly. You can customize what gets found and filter with either. When we tweeted it, there were several responses along the lines of: Why would you use this when…
