rfp-robotRFP ROBOT: Website Request for Proposal Generator

The time has come for a new website (or website redesign), which means you need to write a website request for proposal or web RFP. A Google search produces a few examples, but they vary wildly and don’t seem to speak really to your goals for developing or redesigning a new website. You need to write a website RFP that will clearly articulate your needs and generate responses from the best website designers and developers out there. But how?

Have no fear, RFP Robot is here. He will walk you through a step-by-step process to help you work through the details of your project and create a PDF formatted website design RFP that will provide the information vendors need to write an accurate bid. RFP Robot will tell you what info you should include, point out pitfalls, and give examples.

Finishing a Fitness Micro-Challenge (and Starting a New One)

A week or so ago I shared that I had been working on a fitness micro-challenge which was essentially exercising every single day on the elliptical for at least 60 minutes. Today is the final day and I’m moderately excited to be done with it mostly because I’m going to have to figure out a new challenge for the month of September and I’m not always good at coming up with new challenges on-demand. My current goal is to pare down the daily elliptical machine to 60 minutes every other day and when I do my Mon / Wed / Friday lift days I’ll do 30 minutes. This will amount to 60 minutes of exercise daily which sounds and feels like a decent respite while I consider some other fitness challenges. I was sent this which doesn’t look too bad – I may end up doing this for September: Thoughts? The…

This Summer Olympics Ad is the Most Shared of All Time. Here’s Why.

Super Bowl ads sell for about $5 million per thirty seconds. Over the last five seasons, that number has risen by an average of 11% year over year. The Super Bowl has brought in about $5 billion since 1967 (when adjusted for inflation). Not too shabby. But not even close to the $1+ billion in ad spend brought in a single Olympic game like this year’s Rio. And that’s even despite a double-digit decline in primetime TV viewership. Here’s why, and who’s been the winners so far. How RIO 2016 Stacks Up to Previous Olympic Games Around 4 billion people watched the 2012 London Olympic games.  But in the first few nights of this year’s Rio games, that number was already 17% down. Not that people aren’t as interested in this year’s games. NBC still plans on collecting a cool $120 million in profit. (So don’t feel too bad for them.) It doesn’t take…

When is the Right Time to Think about Web Performance?

Web performance is vital, but lately I’ve felt that the topic has only been brought up by front-end developers, and only becomes a point of discussion at the end of a project. Subsequently, whenever I hear about solutions to trim down large websites, I can’t help but feel that these are merely suggestions or tricks that developers and engineers should employ after the initial design process has kicked off. So what sort of design topics impact performance? Well, any question that a designer might ask themselves. Like these: How many fonts should we use? What sort of imagery should we apply? What kind of analytics scripts do we need? How does a user scroll through our app? How does this complex component affect our CSS? How should we even write CSS? What kind of frameworks should we choose? More often than not, these questions will lead to more code, more…
